There are a number of questions relating to this topic. Here, we try and address a number of those we are often asked. If you have anything else you would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to get in contact with one of the team.
They will save you fuel, which saves you money and it will also reduce your vehicles’ emissions.
We expect to see between 5% to 15% savings across a fleet, although we do often see savings above this on some individual vehicles.
eCALIBRATE™ – We effectively fine tune the vehicle’s existing settings within the ECU to maximise its fuel efficiency. This technology is available for most vehicle types. However on vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes we include speed limiting and removal of excessive engine revving which restricts harsh acceleration (not available on vehicles above 7.5 tonnes).
ECOSAFE GREEN BOX SOLUTION™ – We install a device to the vehicle which restricts the top speed, limits the maximum engine revolutions (RPM) and restricts harsh acceleration on vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes.
eCALIBRATE™ – We do not install any hardware to the vehicle other than our equipment we temporarily use to extract and install the information required from and to the ECU. We only install new software.
ECOSAFE GREEN BOX SOLUTION™ – We install a device, which is connected and left on the vehicle until removed or re-commissioned for new vehicles.
All modern cars have an Electronic Control Unit (or ECU) – a computer within the vehicle which has control of almost every working part in and around the engine and transmission – engine torque, how much fuel and air are mixed together, when the turbo kicks in and so on. These are some of the many settings available.
A vehicle manufacturer needs to produce a vehicle which will start in both the coldest and warmest of climates, run on variable qualities of fuel found across the world and comply with individual country laws and regulations. The manufacturer has to compromise with a “one size fits all” approach to allow the vehicle to be sold into every country. This compromises the fuel efficiency.
A majority of the time no. Depending on the vehicle, we plug our equipment into the on board diagnostics port (OBD port) which is often found behind a panel within a few feet of the driver, this has a direct connection to the ECU allowing us to carry out installation without removing anything from the vehicle. For a very few number of vehicles we do need to remove the ECU but all work is carried out in our mobile workstations by only trained specialist engineers who carry out this type of work on a regular basis. You will be notified prior to arranging any installation.
eCALIBRATE™ – Almost any vehicle or product with a diesel engine. Including cars, all types of commercial vehicles from vans to heavy goods vehicles as well as agricultural vehicles and machinery. We can even install static generators.
ECOSAFE GREEN BOX SOLUTION™ – Most vehicles up to the weight of 7.5 tonnes (equivalent to a large van) and some buses. This product cannot be installed on trucks or other large goods vehicles above 7.5 tonnes but is very well suited to cars, vans and buses.
eCALIBRATE™ – The majority of vehicles we install are diesel. We can install petrol engine vehicles but the process is different and it’s much harder to achieve the same results as diesel engines, therefore we can only provide savings on specific petrol engine vehicles. Most of which are 4×4’s and larger engine petrol vehicles. Please enquire for further details.
ECOSAFE GREEN BOX SOLUTION™ – Yes we can do both petrol and diesel engine vehicles.
eCALIBRATE™ – Typically up to an hour per vehicle if installation is carried out through the OBD port. Some vehicles are quicker than others to install. In the rare occasion that we need to remove the ECU for installation, it can take up to three hours per vehicle. Time per vehicle is saved when we are able to work on multiple batches of vehicles from the same fleet. All our engineers are fully trained and highly experienced in dealing with all vehicle types so your vehicles are left in a safe pair of hands. We offer a quality, nationwide installation service.
ECOSAFE GREEN BOX SOLUTION™ – Typically up to an hour, maybe slightly longer depending on the vehicles interior panels but all engineers gain quick experience at removing and re-installing interior panels on all types of vehicles.
eCALIBRATE™ – No, as it is software it would not be cost effective to remove software from one vehicle to another.
ECOSAFE GREEN BOX SOLUTION™ – Yes, as it is hardware it can be removed and re-installed once the unit is loaded with the latest software for the newly installed vehicle. Please enquire for further details.
It can be reversed for whatever the reason. We store a copy of the original file if the process ever needs to be reversed. However a de-installation cost will apply.
Both products place no further stress on the engine that it would not already go through, however as the vehicles cannot be driven beyond the stress levels as they could before installation, the wear and tear will naturally be reduced increasing the longevity of the engine.
We offer a money back guarantee on fuel saving trials if we don’t achieve the agreed fuel saving after the trial period.
eCALIBRATE™ – Any manufacturer’s warranty left on the vehicle could possibly be affected. A manufacturer may refuse to cover the cost to fix any proven damage caused by our Recalibration service. The event of this may be unlikely as we work within the tolerances used by the manufacturer. However our own Ecosafe Warranty will be provided on the work undertaken by us and vehicles we work on.
ECOSAFE GREEN BOX SOLUTION™ – This type of technology has been accepted across the industry, however our own Ecosafe Warranty will be provided on the work undertaken by us and vehicles we work on.
Ecosafe’s own warranty covers engine and transmission on a Light Goods Vehicles (LGV) or Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV), Buses and Coaches, Tractors and Plant machinery (including Agricultural vehicles, combine harvesters, diggers, JCB’s and other “yellow goods” vehicles for up to £30,000, and for cars, 4×4 vehicles, vans and Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) up to £12,500, in the aggregate during the entire period of the warranty, in respect of any one vehicle. The warranty covers repairs directly attributable to the operating or fitting of the Ecosafe products and it also covers where necessary the additional cost of hiring/use of a replacement motor vehicle (limit up to 7 days, £1,000 per day) if the customer’s vehicle is off the road provided a valid claim for repairs operates, it also covers where necessary the additional cost of transporting the goods already within the motor vehicle to their final originally planned destination. This eliminates any contentious issues with manufacturer’s warranty being invalidated by installing our product. (Terms and conditions apply)
We advise you to inform your motor insurance company or broker that you intend to recalibrate your vehicle for fuel economy and give them details of the work that we have provided you a quotation for. Due to changes made to the vehicle following eCALIBRATE™ or ECOSAFE GREEN BOX SOLUTION™, if the insurer is aware, some may offer reductions on premiums but this can only be discussed between you and your insurer or broker. We are working closely with the insurance industry to advise them fully of the benefits, as we strongly believe the increased longevity, less stress on the vehicle’s engine, reduced driver speeds and safety improvements may allow the insurers to confidently offer reductions on insurance premiums promoting the industry to offer reductions as standard.
No, you do not need to notify VOSA.
We can install your leased vehicles. Many leasing companies accept what we do and we are happy to discuss what we do with any leasing company not already aware. Most leasing partners we speak to are willing to receive their vehicles back still installed as they can offer the benefits to other prospective customers when the vehicles are sold on. However if the new owner does not want the product we can remove at a cost.
Prices vary across products, vehicle types and sizes but will reduce depending on the size of the fleet being installed. Please contact us for further details on prices so we can provide you with the correct information for your vehicle type and fleet combination.
Yes you can. We have leasing packages available over a number of years for variable fleet sizes (subject to terms and conditions).
